Following the steps in this article you will learn how to repair a broken link to an external table in Microsoft Access. The link to an external table can be broken if it is moved, renamed, or deleted. Once the link to a table is broken anything within the database that references that table will no longer work. If the external table was deleted, then you are out of luck. However, if you want to connect to a new table or reconnect to a table that has been moved or renamed, then this article will help you.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Open the Microsoft Access Database with the table that has the broken link.

  2. Step 2

    Goto the tools menu and select Database Utilities \ Linked Table Manager. This will start the Linked Table Manager Utility.

  3. Step 3
     

    Place a check in the box next to the external table with the broken link. Click 'Ok'

  4. Step 4

    A prompt will appear requesting that you select a new data source. Navigate to the new table and select ok.
