How to Train Your Puppy to Use a Litter Box

By the end of reading this article, you will somewhat be pleased that training your little doggie to use a litter box isn't that hard. Most importantly, you will need time and patience!!!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Litter box
• Doggie litter or cat litter but I prefer dog litter which can be found at petsmart or petco, etc.
• Pooper Scooper
• Treats
• Most importantly, TIME!

1. It is much easier when your dog is in its puppy stage to train, only because it is small and light enough for you to pick up. (read on)

2. When you see that your dog is beginning to sniff around or squat to pee on your floor, immediately say NO in a stern voice and quickly pick it up and place it in the litter box. (Even if it is in the process of peeing, they will stop if you interrupt it)

3. Leave it in the litter box until you see that it has peed or pooped, if it tries to climb out, simply place it back in until you see it go! Once it goes, make sure you say "gooood dog" and treat!

4. Place your puppy in the litter box a few times a day and repeat step 3 until it knows to go by itself. I did this to a few of my puppies and it took about a month for the puppy to catch on.

Tips & Warnings

• Be very patient and consistent! ALWAYS give it a reward when it goes to the litter box. If it accidentally goes on the floor, say NO and place it in time out for 5 mins. only! Make sure your puppy doesn't see you clean up his or her mess!
