This recipe is for a caprese crisp. You are combining the flavors of caprese salad and putting them on a pita. This is a great snack or can be used as a appetizer at a party. It is so easy to make and has a fresh flavor due to the fresh basil leaves.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Pita
  • olive oil
  • 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1 roman tomato
  • 2 basil leaves
  • balsamic
  • salt and pepper to taste
  1. Step 1

The first step when making a caprese crisp is to drizzle the pita with olive oil very lightly and toast the pita for 4 minutes in a 450 degree oven. You will need to check the pita often so it does not burn.

  2. Step 2

While your pita is toasting cut your roman tomato into very thin slices. Pull the pita out of the oven and add the tomato slices in a thin layer. Then cover with grated mozzarella cheese.

  3. Step 3

Return to oven until the cheese has melted. While cheese is melting cut the basil by rolling up length wise and cutting across. Cut into four wedges and season with salt and pepper.

  4. Step 4

When you pull out the pita add the cut basil evenly over the top of the pita. Then drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Now you are ready to serve you caprese crisp.
