How to Create Parke Wooden Boards in Photoshop

A simple tutorial to learn how to create Parke-like wooden boards in Photoshop!

Things You'll Need:

  • Photoshop
  1. Step 1
    New canvas
    New canvas

    This is a very easy way to create wooden boards that look like Parke in Photoshop!

    In this tutorial I use Photoshop CS3.

    Here goes:

    Create a new canvas. Mine here is 500x700 pixels.

    Pick your color
    Pick your color

    Choose a Brownish color (or whatever color you find suitable).

    Fill your canvas! Press Alt+Backspace for quickness!

  4. Step 4
    Add a Sponge filter
    Add a Sponge filter

    Go to Filters >> Artistic >> Sponge. Here's what your image will look like after it's been 'sponged'.

    Add a Motion Blur

    Now, go on to Filters >> Blur >> Motion Blur. Keep your Angle 90 degrees and adjust your Distance according to what suits you best. I made my Distance 88 in this case. Looks nice and real.

    Choose a dark brown color and a good brush size
    Choose a dark brown color and a good brush size

    Now, we choose a darker brown color to create the lines that divide between each board in the Parke. Make sure your brush is a suitable size (3 pts in this case).

    Draw the divides using the Line tool

    Choose the Line tool as shown in the screen cap and draw your lines! The path they make will look green so that you can see them good. If you want to make sure your lines are straight as you draw them, press Alt while you do!

    Go to your Paths tab and right-click on the work Path. Choose 'Stroke Path' from the menu. Make sure the path is gonnna be drawn using a Brush and that there's no Pressure added.

    For a clearer view, press in the gray space outside the Work Path to remove the green lines of the Line tool.

    There you go! You can use this Parke as a wall, a floor or whichever way you want! I hope you found this tut useful! I'm open to suggestions so please let me know what you think.
