Things You'll Need:
- Silk Ties
- Thread
- 7-9" Skirt Zipper
-
Step 1
Head on over to your local thrift shop. On the way? Stop at any and all yard sales. You are searching for 100% silk ties. The usual price will range from .25 cents to 2.00 per tie. Choose ties from a color scheme, or a pattern theme. Paisleys, geometrics, stripes, floral prints. You decide. You will need 6-10 ties to make your Silk Tie Skirt - based on your size.
-
Step 2
Now comes the patience required step. With a seam ripper or very sharp scissors begin taking out the center back seam of your ties. You will also want to remove any tags. Be careful and not cut the fabrics. Leave the 'lining' on the ends of the ties intact.
-
Step 3
Once all seams and threads have been removed from your ties you will need to press them flat.
-
Step 4
Measure from your waist to the length you would like your skirt. Line your ties up and measure from the point of the big end of your tie up and cut the tie to the length you would like your skirt. From the big point of the skirt, with right sides together seam each tie to the next. the last two ties to stitch together should leave room at the top to place your zipper.
Sew in your zipper in the last seam. -
Step 5
Decide on which tie you would like for a waistband for your Silk Tie Skirt. Remove tags and seams and cut the ends off of the small end of the tie. Measure your waist and cut this tie to the measurement of your waist from the cut end to the center of the tie.
Attach your waistband and hand stitch after folding down over the top seams. -
Step 6
You should now have a complete handmade from Silk Ties Skirt in just the right length! Wear and enjoy!
