How would you feel if someone mispronounced your name or state? Wanting to correct them would be a normal response. One which would be appropriate since the name is widely used by your family and friends and by the locals if it is a city or state name. On the other hand, different geographical areas will provide different pronunciations for less personal things and most likely the best reaction is, "When in Rome..."

Things You'll Need:

  • Online Dictionary with Audio Pronunciations
  1. Step 1

    Use an online dictionary to read the pronunciation and then to listen to the audio version. Many words will have more than one written and audio presentation. Resources are listed below.

  2. Step 2

    Practice saying all of the versions of the audio pronunciation of Pecan and notice how they feel rolling off of the tongue. After repeating it you may hear the tones of the different versions and they start sounding fine to your ear or they may re-enforce your belief that it sounds better one way.

  3. Step 3

    Decide that even though you prefer a certain way of saying Pecan, others will prefer a different way and that is okay. Some may even change their mind and way of saying it after hearing the different recorded versions.
