Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

When caring for the beautiful Canna lily you can enjoy full year color if grown inside. The leaves of a Canna lily keep color even after the flower wilts. The Canna lily should be sheltered from wind if it of the tall varieties. This may require staking of the grown Canna lily.

  2. Step 2

Whether you are growing your Canna lily indoors or outdoors, it will need to be planted in very moist soil. Put a 2-4 in. layer of mulch around the base of your Canna lily to retain moisture. These flowers like to stay very moist. Water your Canna lily frequently throughout the summer. Water house plants a bit more than outdoor plants.

  3. Step 3

Canna lilies like to be in the bright sun. They will thrive on full sunlight for premium growth.

  4. Step 4

After flowers wilt remove them from the stem. Once the first frost kills what's left, cut outdoor plants down to about 5 1/2 in. Di up the root system, and place in plastic box filled with peat moss. If you have multiple Canna lilies, make sure they aren't touching in the box. Sore rhizomes at 45-60 degrees for the winter, replant in the spring.
