Things You'll Need:

  • Painters Tape

  1. Step 1

First take painters tape and cover the surrounding tiles to protect them as you remove the broken ceramic tiles.

  2. Step 2

Before you remove ceramic tiles you need to remove the grout around them. Take a small flat head screwdriver or chisel and hold it at a 45 degree angle to the grout. Carefully using a hammer chisel out the grout. This can be time consuming but is very effective.

  3. Step 3

Next take a putty knife and attempt to pry the tile free by prying it off with a putty knife.

  4. Step 4

The next step is the break the tile and remove it in pieces. Cover the ceramic tile in painters tape. Then take a nail and hammer and act as if you plan to drive the nail into the tile. Only strike it once though. This should break the tile.
