Things You'll Need:
- eBay account
- Digital camera
- Beginner level knowledge of HTML
-
Step 1
Take the time to write an accurate and extremely thorough description of your item. It's important to think like a customer when crafting your item description. Ask yourself what information would you not only want to know about the item, but what would COMPEL you to purchase it? Points you want to be sure to touch on include: The item's features, condition, detailed specifications, and perhaps most importantly, your personal opinion of the item. Believe it or not, people respond to actual testimonials. Remember, your goal is to sell the item for top dollar, so think like a salesman.
-
Step 2
Just as important as the item description are high-quality images of the item you're selling. Set your item on a plain-colored surface and against a neutral background and using a digital camera, take a couple dozen pictures of your item. Be sure you have adequate lighting and adjust as necessary to ensure your pictures are well-lit. Pick your best images to include in your eBay auction.
As a bonus, if you're familiar with HTML, you can upload your auction images elsewhere (such as photobucket.com) and link to them from within the auction description instead of uploading them to eBay's servers - this will save you approximately $.15 for each picture you include in the auction. -
Step 3
List your item on eBay around 9 or 10PM EST. This ensures that your item will be closer to the top of the listings during the evening hours, when people (on both the East and West coasts) are most likely to be browsing the site. Obviously, the more people you can get your item in front of, the higher the likelihood of it being bid up.
-
Step 4
If you've spent even a small amount of time browsing eBay listings, you're sure to come across listings that look like full-fledged websites, complete with fancy colors, content boxes, and professional images. If you're familiar with HTML, spend some time developing a custom, professional eBay listing template to differentiate your auctions from millions of others on the site.
If, on the other hand, you're not an HTML whiz, spend a few minutes googling for eBay listing templates and you'll find dozens of sites that can add the appeal to your auctions that you need to get top dollar.
