Whether you're interested in inventing a product or selling a product, you want to improve the odds that the item has a market. Here are a few ways you can increase the chances that the product you invent or market will sell well.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Open mind
  • Ability to listen
  • Creativity
  1. Step 1

Do a keyword search. Searches are essentially people who have a problem that they want solved. Maybe they want to fix something, buy something, or change something. Find the most search for keywords or phrases and ask yourself: what are these people looking for?

  2. Step 2

Listen to your friends' grips and complaints. They may reveal an idea for an invention, or uncover a need for a product that's already on the market that you could sell or become an affiliate marketer for.

  3. Step 3

Listen to your own gripes. Is there an easier way to do something that you do every day... and hate? Is there an activity you wish you could do better? Can you find a product on the market that makes this activity easier or improve the performance?

  4. Step 4

Read. Read. Read. Read journals and magazines, blogs and forums, books and ebooks. Watch television. Gather as much information as possible with these questions in mind: what are the problems and how can I solve them?

Tips & Warnings
  • Synthesize problems and solutions. For instance, a solution in one situation may be the answer to a problem in another totally different category.
  • Be wary of surveys. Often people take surveys to tell people what they think what they want to hear, not exactly what they think.
