How to Setup Email With Outlook Express

You can use Outlook express to setup emails from all of your accounts to be viewed in one place. Make sure you contact your ISP provider to get the needed information to make setting up your email a success.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft Outlook Express
  • The type of e-mail server you use: POP3 (most e-mail accounts), HTTP (such as Hotmail), or IMAP
  • The name of the incoming e-mail server
  • For POP3 and IMAP servers, the name of the outgoing e-mail server (generally SMTP)
  1. Step 1
     

    In outlook express go to 'tools', accounts
    If Internet Connection Wizard pops up, go to step 4.

  2. Step 2

    Go to the mail tab, click add and then mail.
    In Internet Connection Wizard go to 'add', click 'mail'

  3. Step 3

    Put your full name in the display name box, click next.

  4. Step 4

    In the Address field put the full email address, click next.

  5. Step 5

    On email server tab put in the info you collected from your ISP.

    For Hotmail users put in Incoming mail server: HTTP. For the HTTP mail service provider put hotmail. Click next.

  6. Step 6

    Login information: Put your full email and password, click next and then finish

  7. Step 7
     

    Congrats!, You are now ready to send your first message!

Tips & Warnings
  • Send an e-mail message to a friend. If they get the message, your account is ready! Outlook Express offers help. Search for troubleshooting topics from Contents and Index on the Help menu
  • If you are having troubles, Check that you are connected to the Internet
  • Make sure that your Hotmail email address was properly typed
  • Confirm that you entered the correct Hotmail password
  • Ensure that Outlook Express is not if "Offline" mode (File > Work Offline)
