Cold sores can be extremely painful and ugly. Cold sores can make you feel uncomfortable and shy around others and unfortunately take away from any appearance. However, there are way to get rid of cold sores and shorten the time of the viral outbreak that causes them. Learn how to get rid of cold sores so that next time you feel one coming you have a plan for how to get rid of it sooner.

    Prescriptions!
    If you commonly get cold sores, it may be time to look into a prescription treatment. These medicines to get rid of cold sores are anti viral but stronger than typical over the counter remedies. They also help to prevent future outbreaks. Some effective prescription cold sore treatments are Penciclovir, Aciclovire, Valicyclovir, and Ganciclovir.

    Prevent Cold Sores!
    Since you can never fully stop a cold sore once it starts, it is important to prevent them before they happen. Keep lips well moisturized, avoid stress, avoid over exposure to the sun, and avoid contact with people with cold sores to lessen your chance of developing one yourself!
