This article will guide you step by step through the process of setting up an Outlook Express e-mail account.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • You may need to contact your Internet Service Provider to find out the type of e-mail server you use. It will either be POP3, HTTP or IMAP.
  • If it is POP3 or IMAP you will also need to find out the name of the outgoing e-mail server.
  1. Step 1

Make sure that you know your e-mail address and the type of e-mail server you use.

  2. Step 2

Create an account name and password. Be sure that you choose a strong password. Do not use the same password for every account you create online! Write this down somewhere for future reference.

  3. Step 3

Start Outlook Express. From the Tools menu, click on Accounts. Now click on Add, then click Mail.

  4. Step 4

On the Your Name page, type in the name you want to appear on your e-mail. (This could be your actual name, or a nickname, depending on your purpose for setting up this account.) Then click Next.

  5. Step 5

This is the Internet Explorer page. Type in your e-mail address, then click Next.

  6. Step 6

Now you should be on the E-mail Server Names page. This is where you need the information about the type of e-mail server you use. Type that information in, then click Next.

  7. Step 7

This is the Internet Log On page. Type in your account name and password. If you use a shared computer, uncheck the "remember password" box! Click Next, then click Finish.

  8. Step 8

Now send an e-mail to someone to see that it works!

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to uncheck the "Remember Password" box if you use a shared computer.
