FIX the WI-FI on a ACER ASPIRE ONE NOTEBOOK
FIX the WI-FI on a ACER ASPIRE ONE NOTEBOOK

The Acer Aspire One Notebook is a fantastic laptop to own. It is smaller than the full size laptops on the market and less expensive. It is light and VERY portable and comes in a variety of colors. But this model has one glitch, it loses wireless connectivity. Not only does it lose connectivity, it loses
the icon and the driver! Gone! It happened to me three times in two months. And I don't know how I got the WI-Fi back. But now I know how to prevent the WI-FI from disappearing again.
Now the three times I lost the Wireless connection I managed to get it back without any professional help or downloading new drivers. But I really don't know exactly how I did it.
I played around with the Device Manager for awhile. Then I rebooted the laptop and the WI-FI was back. So once you get it back follow these directions to prevent the loss of the connection again.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ACER ASPIRE ONE NOTEBOOK
  1. Step 1

Go to START then open up CONTROL PANEL.

  2. Step 2

    Click on SYSTEM.

  3. Step 3

Now you'll see some tabs at the top. Click on the HARDWARE tab.

  4. Step 4

    Now click on DEVICE MANAGER.

  5. Step 5

Now click on the + next to NETWORK ADAPTERS.

  6. Step 6

Now you want to RIGHT-CLICK on ATHEROS WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER.

  7. Step 7

    Click on PROPERTIES.

  8. Step 8

You'll see more tabs at the top. Click on ADVANCED.

  9. Step 9

Go down to where it says POWER SAVE MODE and click on it. This will Hi-light it.

  10. Step 10

Now to the right you'll see a box labeled VALUE. Open the tab and click on OFF.

  11. Step 11

Click on OK at the bottom and your done. Now you can get back to enjoying your Acer notebook like I do.

on 7/4/2009 scooterport, thanks for the article about the acer's wi-fi disappearing. just happened to me and i've owned the thing for about 6 months now. it's not coming back though (so far). i think you have xp loaded on your's. mine is linux. the power thing is always set at "balanced" vs. the low-power saver thing. no device manager on linux -- will have to find the equivalent and mess around with it some more. hopefully it will mysteriously return as it did for your's. anyway, good to know there are other acer owners afflicted by this. thanks again.
