A simple tile can be transformed into beautiful mosaic art. It's quite simple actually. Ceramic tiles are available at a variety of stores including home improvement and craft stores.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ceramic tiles in matte or gloss finish
  • Tile cutter
  1. Step 1

The smaller tiles come on a sheet and you will just peel them off the mesh backing when you are ready to cut it. Score the surface of the tile with the cutting tool' s edge. There are different types of cutting tools. A hand cutter can be used if you have softer tiles. With this cutter, you will measure the cutting lines and mark with a marking pen. You can wipe the pen off later.

  2. Step 2

Now you are going to break the tile along the scored line by pressing the breaking wings of the cutter against the tile. If you are going for tiny squares or any shape with a straight edge, be careful to break the tile on the score you made. For harder tiles, a large commercial cutter may be necessary.

  3. Step 3

You have actually just made a mosaic tile! You can get creative and cut them into different shapes, sizes, etc. If you want random shapes and sizes of tile, use the breaking wings of the hand cutter without scoring it first. Now you can create a work of Mosaic Art with the tiles you have made.

Tips & Warnings
  • Break tiles inside a paper bag. This keeps your work area clean and free of small chips of tile.
  • Read all directions before using the cutters, especially if you have never done this before.
