Raise Calcium Hardness in Swimming Pools
Raise Calcium Hardness in Swimming Pools

Swimming pools must have calcium. If you do not provide it, the water will start to break down the vinyl liner or PVC pipe and extract the calcium.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Calcium Chloride
  1. Step 1

Calcium hardness is a not so well know pool reading that must be maintained or the swimming pool water will get it somehow, whether breaking down the vinyl liner, plaster, or PVC pipe. The range for calcium in swimming pools is 150-200 ppm.

  2. Step 2

The product to use is calcium chloride. This product can be added several different ways. It is a granular product with large ball shaped particles or large flakes.

  3. Step 3

I recommend adding it slowly through the skimmer basket and allowing it to dissolve. You can also broadcast it over the pool surface with the pump running. You will probably have some that settles to the bottom, so either brush until dissolved or run the automatic swimming pool cleaner to keep the product off the pool bottom.
