    Divide into 7 equal strands.
    Divide into 7 equal strands.

Begin by dividing the hair into 7 equal strands. You may find it is easiest to first form a strand in the center of your head, and then forming three equal strands on either side.
You can start the braid at the forehead (like a French Braid), at the nape of the neck (for a pony style), or flip hair over and start at base of neck working to the forehead for a beautiful up-do.

  2. Step 2
    Begin on Right side.
    Begin on Right side.

Picturing strands are in numerical order, with #1 on left side of face, #4 in center, and #7 on right side of face.

Begin on right hand side, crossing strand 7 over strand 6.

  3. Step 3
    Starts like a regular braid.

Cross strand #5 over what is now strand #6 (originally strand #7), just like a regular braid.

  4. Step 4

Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the left side (leaving center strand #4 untouched).

  5. Step 5
    Now bring in center strand.
    Now bring in center strand.

Take what is now strand #5 on right side, cross it over center strand #4, and under what is now strand #3 on left side.

  6. Step 6
    Continue braid on right side.
    Continue braid on right side.

Bring what is now strand #7 on right side over strand #6, and under center strand #4.

  7. Step 7

Repeat step 6 on left side.

  8. Step 8

Repeat until all desired hair is braided.

  9. Step 9

    Secure with elastic hair band.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can do this braid French-braid style by starting at the forehead and working your way to the back of the neck.
  • You can also invert your hair and start at the nape of the neck, working your way to the forehead in French-braid style up-do.
  • Works great for those with Locs.
