Our pets are an intricate part of our family that few of us could go without, however, we would all love to forego the unpleasant remnants of fir and fluff they leave on our furniture, clothing, floors, and anywhere else they can find. This article is a combination of a few easy, inexpensive efforts you can make to keep your home looking as if the animal doesn't rule the house, even if it does!! These tips are quick and require common household items but can make a big difference when it comes to cleaning time, and can also help alleviate dander deposits throughout your home.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lint roller
  • Furnace filters (monthly)
  • pet brush
  • pet cleaning wipes
  • dryer sheets/fabric softener
  • lint trap cleaner
  • reliable vacuum
  1. Step 1
Vacuum weekly to remove hair and dander before it gets compacted into fabrics and carpet

Set up a regular cleaning schedule. This will help to eliminate the build up of pet hair by making sure surfaces are cleaned often. Primarily concentrate on cleaning carpets and furniture with a through vacuuming rolled by lint rolling. Then, you can also lightly rub your furniture with dryer sheets. This will help the fabric to repel hair while also leaving the furniture smelling nice.

  2. Step 2

Change your furnace filter often. I suggest changing the filter about once per month. Most filters are $2 or less and can help catch a lot of dander and pet hair that could be taken in by your furnace or a/c unit. Changing the filter not only keeps your equipment functioning at an optimal level, it also helps eliminate airborne hair and particles from being recirculated through your home. Along the same idea, vacuum you vents often to remove pet hair.

  3. Step 3

Remove and wash all linens and covers regularly. This will remove unwanted pet hair and also deter a parasite problem from occurring (fleas, bedbugs, etc). When washing all laundry make sure to use quality fabric softener and dryer sheets to help remove pet hair. Since you will be experiencing high volumes of hair and dust in your washer and dryer, it will be important to keep them maintained by cleaning lint traps and regular maintenance.

  4. Step 4

Brushing and grooming your pet offers many benefits. One such benefit, is that regular brushing helps remove loose hair and dander from your pet' s coat, thereby reducing the amount of hair that will end up littering your home. Use a high quality brush daily, or at minimum twice per week, to see a difference in the shine of your animal's coat and that you have less cleaning to do! Supplement brushing with wiping down your pet with pet cleansing wipes, to get a deeper clean.

  5. Step 5

If all else fails, it may be time to keep your animal restricted to certain areas of your home that will be easier to maintain such as basements, bathrooms, laundry rooms, or any other areas with smooth flooring and minimal furnishings.
