How to Change Information on an iPod

How to Change Information on an iPod thumbnail
IPod users can change a variety of information on the device.

Apple's iPod has long dominated the music player market. The iPod's ease-of-use is often cited as one of Apple's most ingenious features. As people acquire new or refurbished iPods, they often want to change owner information on the device. Other information, such as that related to an individual song, artist, or album, can also be adjusted so that songs of certain types and genres and even the same song performed by different artists can be found more easily in the digital music collection.

Things You'll Need

  • iPod syncing cord
  • iTunes software

Instructions

  1. Owner Name

    • 1

Connect the iPod to your computer using the syncing cord that came with the device and launch iTunes. Look midway down the left column of the iTunes program window. Find the icon of the iPod with a name beside it.

    • 2

Highlight the line that depicts the iPod icon and name by clicking it once with your mouse.

    • 3

Slowly click the device name again, being careful that your computer doesn't respond to these two clicks as a double-click. This sets the iPod's name in edit mode, as indicated by a box outlining the name.

    • 4

Type a new name using your computer keyboard, and press the "Enter" key. Sync your device to iTunes to finalize the name change.

    Song Display

    • 5

Open iTunes and highlight the song you want to edit.

    • 6

Click the File menu in the upper left corner of the iTunes program. From the drop-down menu, select the "Get Info" option. This opens an information window with the Summary tab displayed.

    • 7

Select the second tab, titled "Info," along the top of the information window. This tab has editable boxes for the song title, artist, album, composer, year, track number and additional information related to the song.

    • 8

Change the information you want to adjust for the song. Click the "OK" button to finalize your changes.

    • 9

Re-sync your iPod using the sync cord to update the information on your device.

Tips & Warnings

  • An alternative to the two-click method for editing a field in iTunes is to highlight the iPod name line and then press the "F2" key on your keyboard. The F2 key is a standard rename hot key that sets a field in edit mode so that a name can be changed.
