Recognize juvenile diabetes symptoms to look for.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time spent observing your children.
  1. Step 1

The amount of people diagnosed with Diabetes seems to be growing larger every day. Type 2 Diabetes is usually found in adults later in life causes are directly linked to diet and the way they live their lives. What I would like to share is information on Type 1 or juvenile Diabetes.

  2. Step 2

Symptoms of Diabetes in children can easily be missed kids do not always understand if something is wrong with them so when you ask them if they feel okay you may not get an answer. Parents will start by taking the temperature of their child if there is no temperature they might decide it is the child needing attention or maybe just being a kid.

  3. Step 3

Signs to look for in diagnosing a possible case of Diabetes in children can be hard to recognize look for changes in behavior after they have eaten. Diabetics can not process glucose properly so any carbohydrates consumed elevates the childs blood sugar level which causes changes in their temperament they may start complaining about several things like my skin hurts or maybe just their head is bothering them this may be symptoms of high blood sugar. High blood sugar will reach a level that causes the child to be confused and unstable.
Another symptom could be bed wetting or the sudden start of accidents while sleeping their body is trying to get rid of the excess sugar by urinating and since they are disoriented they have trouble waking up to use the bathroom. When you are performing the task of cleaning up an accident and you notice any sticky residue have your child checked by a doctor immediately this is a sign of possible Diabetes.
The inability to wake up in the mourning is another symptom. Low blood sugar causes the child to be very lethargic if blood sugar levels are extremely low they can go into coma like symptoms. In an emergency of course call a doctor but there is something you can do start by trying to get the child to drink some orange juice anything that converts to sugar quickly can help reverse low blood sugar if this can not be accomplished try something high in sugar that can be placed in your childs mouth and will dissolve like hard candy for instance.

Please do not hesitate in calling a doctor my information comes from my own experiences with my son. Learning to care for him since he was diagnosed at the age of 3 has been difficult at times but now at the age of 11 testing and infusion of insulin is accepted as normal every day routine. Technology in the field has helped my son feel like he is like any other kid.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get your child to a doctor if any of these symptoms have been recognized do not hesitate.
