Here are some ways to use essential oils to get rid of fleas. Please see the warning at the end of the article about using essential oils around cats.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Essential Oils
  1. Step 1

Bathe your pet with shampoo to which you have added 1-2 drops of one of the following essential oils: citronella, eucalyptus, lemongrass, or pine.

  2. Step 2

According to Aromatherapy for Dummies, the following mixture is safe for dogs: Mix 1/2 cup shampoo and 1 teaspoon orange oil. Bathe your pet with this shampoo, rinsing well.

  3. Step 3

In a spray bottle, combine 1/2 cup distilled water with 1 or 2 drops of each eucalyptus, orange, citronella, and cedarwood. Shake well. Spray on your dog, avoiding the eyes, or spray on pet's bedding.

  4. Step 4

When you wash your pet's bedding, add a few drops of one of the mentioned essential oils to the rinse cycle.

  5. Step 5

To get rid of fleas around the house, mix 1 cup table salt with 1 teaspoon lavender essential oil. Sprinkle the mixture on your carpet and in places where fleas hide. (Do not let your pet lick up this mixture.)
