Congratulations! You're getting married, and that often means gifts of money and items for your new home from a wedding registry. There's some additional work on your part, however: you must write a thank-you note to the loved ones who gave you a gift.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stationery
  • LOTS of stamps
  • Addresses
  1. Step 1

It is best to purchase a single notebook to track gifts received throughout your engagement. Keeping the names in a central location allows you to ensure you haven't missed a thank-you note! Keep the gifts arranged according to date received - this can let you know if a note is long overdue!

  2. Step 2

Go through your list methodically - just stay in order by gift received. Now you are ready to write! After your greeting (Dear Aunt Joan, etc.) a simple "Thank you very much for XXX (the toaster, place setting, etc.) is a great start. If money is what you have received, a simple "Thank you so much for your wedding gift/thinking of us." may be more appropriate.

  3. Step 3

Next is the portion that is more personalized. You may want to let your loved one in on how intend to use the item. (For example, "The candlesticks were so lovely and will look perfect on our dining room table." or "Now I can actually have a set of matching towels.") This lets your gift giver know the present is both appreciated and useful.

  4. Step 4

If you know the person very well, you may wish to add an additional line concerning his or her family or life. (For example, "I hope Bob and Julie are doing great-and that Mike is having a good school year." or "It was so wonderful to see you at the shower - I always love sharing old stories with you.")

  5. Step 5

Now is the time to close the note up! I know that you may be concerned the letter isn't long enough, but remember - you will be writing numerous notes - the process can't take too long in writing, or you will never finish! A simple, "Thank you again for thinking of us." or "I truly appreciate your kindness." should do the trick!

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to write your notes as soon as possible. Otherwise you are likely to get very, very far behind! A good rule of thumb, however, is that you should have sent out all notes two months after your wedding.
