Instructions

    • 1
      Full sun

If you have just purchased your knockout roses, decide where you want to plant them in your garden. Knockout roses grow best in full sun.

    • 2
      Soil rich in nutrients

Next make sure your soil is ready for plants. Use a planting soil high in organic materials and manure that will promote healthy roots and ensure continued growth.

    • 3
      Dig a hole deep enough

Dig a hole deep enough for your rose. It should be about twice as big as the container to make sure the roots will have enough room for growth.

    • 4

Cover your hole or holes with black tarp and cut out the area where the roses will be planted. This will cut down on weeds growing in your garden.

    • 5

Carefully take your rose out of the container and place into the hole. Water the base of the plant before filling the hole with soil and fertilizer. Water again.

    • 6
      Use mulch

Put mulch or pine straw over the black tarp for a nice finished touch. This will also help with the ground to stay moist.

    • 7
      Water regularly

Water every three days in the morning or when you see a little wilt.

    • 8
Once established, mix fertilizer within the first inch of soil.

Use a fertilizer for roses that has a time release so you don't have to worry about fertilizing every month.

    • 9
Prune at the beginning of spring

Knockout roses can grow to be three feet tall or taller so prune them at the beginning of spring to about one foot above the ground.

Tips & Warnings

  • Grow in full sun.

  • Use a soil rich in nutrients and organic compost.

  • Use a time released fertilizer

  • Prune in the beginning of spring to about 12 inches above the ground

  • Make beautiful bouquets for your home and friends.

  • Even though knockout roses are resistant to black spots, still watch out for beetles that love roses.
