Defrag a Computer

Defragging a computer is a very important thing to do to any computer but some people have never done it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Windows Operating System
  1. Step 1

When you defrag a computer, it is basically getting rid of old tidbits of information that is cluttered on the harddrive that you don't need or rearranges these files for faster access and faster overall performance of the computer.

  2. Step 2

To defragment a computer, go to start > applications > accessories > system tools > disk defragmenter.

  3. Step 3

Choose the drive that you would want to defragment. For most PC's, it is the C: drive. Click on that drive and choose analyze.

  4. Step 4

Once it is done analyzing, choose defragment and wait for your computer to defragment. If you have never used this tool before, then it could take a while so give it time and go do something else.

  5. Step 5

Once it is done defragmenting, restart your computer. You should now see a noticeable difference in performance when doing simple tasks. Make sure to run the disk defragmenter atleast once a month to keep the computer up to speed.
