Things You'll Need:
- Online access
- Domain(s)
- Credit or Debit Card
-
Step 1
Transferring a Domain
Each registrar’ s website is unique, but in general this is how to transfer domains: -
Step 2
1. Log into "account management" or "your domain manager" on the site where your domain is registered.
2. Click on the specific domain name you wish to transfer.
3. Verify that your contact information is valid, especially the administrator email address.
4. Unlock the domain.
5. Look for a field that says “authorization code”, “transfer key”, or something comparable. Click on that, and an authorization code will be emailed to you. (Not all registrars generate authorization codes. Some use the account password as the code. Contact the customer service department of your current registrar if you have difficulty.)
6. Click OK.
7. Provide the domain authorization code to your new registrar, along with the domain name you wish to transfer. -
Step 3
Confirmation
You will likely receive an email from your current registrar telling you that a change to your account has been initiated and confirming that it was indeed you who ordered the change. Read the email carefully and respond accordingly.
It may take up to 72 hours for the transfer to your new registrar to take place.
