Soothe a Fussy Baby

Often, parents are at their wit's end trying to soothe their infant. Tears, screams and little red faces can make even the best parent want to hide in their closet for a while! You may notice that a few of my suggestions look familiar. I highly recommend Dr. Harvey Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block. Listed below are a few methods that I have found work every time for soothing a little one:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Swaddling. Invest in a Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe. They make swaddling go from confusing and impossible to incredibly simple. Swaddling infants causes them to feel safe and secure, similar to how they felt when they were tucked away in the womb.

  2. Step 2

Shushing while swinging. While in the womb, infants are rocked with mom's movements and constantly hear a dim roaring sound from the blood flowing through mom's veins. Holding your baby close to you while swinging back and forth and making shushing noises is a simple way to mimic the feelings of being in the womb and is a sure way to comfort your little one and lull him or her to sleep.

  3. Step 3

    3. Gripe Water. When something is bothering your baby, and you're not quite sure what it is, look to gripe water. Gripe water is all natural and soothes baby's tummy. If your baby is experiencing gas, colic, acid reflux, or even irritation from teething, gripe water will help to soothe your baby's tummy. Gripe Water can be found at your local drug store or health food store.
