Things You'll Need:
- Chisel-point calligraphy pen with a width of approximately one and a half millimeters or my favorite: Double-ended calligraphy marker for large and small lettering: two chisel points (3.5 mm and 2.0 m
- Lined paper.
-
Step 1
Calligraphy markerStart by selecting the calligraphy pen you will be using. I have found the chisel point calligraphy pen with the width of one and a half millimeters to work well for beginners. However, starting with a calligraphy marker has it's benefits as well. With a calligraphy market you do not have to worry about learning how to use the pen itself. It is best to learn the basics before moving on to the fancier calligraphy pens.
-
Step 2
Use lined paper. I just used regular lined paper and wrote on a couple lines at a time, but you can also purchase paper that is used for kindergartens to practice their alphabet.
-
Step 3
Pick out the calligraphy style you would like to start out with. Same thing goes here as with picking out the calligraphy pen, start basic then go from there.
-
Step 4
Prepare your work station. You can practice your calligraphy on any smooth hard surface, but a tilted desk top can make it easier to control your calligraphy pen. Because calligraphy has detail slats and curbs controlling the pen will can be tricky but once mastered it will ultimately improve your hand writing.
-
Step 5
Write your calligraphy alphabet over and over again till you get it right. You mainly trace the letters a few times before going freehand, but you may do better by just looking at the letters and trying to mimic. Start with the lower case then go to the capital letters. Use small smooth stocks when learning.
