Negative thoughts are either a large part of your life or someone you know very well. We often try to help ourselves or those who constantly or often think negatively. My tips might be able to help to stop negative thoughts.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The process of thinking negatively might be deeply ingrained in a person, so time might be more lengthy than first anticipated to eliminate negative thoughts. Be patient! My method has been successful with others with time and patience. Thinking is something that can be encouraged and nurtured to take a different direction with the correct perseverance and care.

  2. Step 2

Negative thoughts need to be replaced with positive ones as often as possible. You might have had conversations with someone that was dwelling on the bad points of everything they conversed to you about in sharing. Instead of reprimanding, correcting or criticising that person, answer with the positive swing to that subject. Let me give you an example. I live where it rains a lot. The foliage is lush and green all year long from the large amount of rainfall. My negative person mentions the rain with an annoyance with the tone of voice as well as the words. I quickly say "That is what keeps our state so lush, green and delightfully wonderful to enjoy. Quite often I add the fact that I don't have to shovel rain in the winter.

  3. Step 3

For some reason, a negative thought has a lot of power. The positive one has less power, unless you strengthen it. Firmness is the key here. Whenever a negative thought appears, replace it with one or more positive thoughts. Consider the mind as an expanding balloon. Only so much will go into the thoughts. Fill that area with positiveness so there will be less space for negative thoughts.

  4. Step 4

Negative thoughts are disruptive in nature. They do not have the capabilities to serve to add to contentment at all. The end result is annoyance, lack of enjoyment, sometimes solitude and other unpleasant outcomes. When these negative thoughts come charging in, put the brakes on if they come into your life by concentration on one or more wonderful things to replace them.

  5. Step 5

Surrounding yourself with happy, positive and noticing the goodness around you, the negative will slowly diminish. As these are practiced more, you will notice substantial and a remarkable end product of eliminating the negative thoughts will be present. The valleys visits will be fewer because you will be on mountain top places more often.
