There is nothing more annoying and irritating than a sore throat. A sore throat is especially painful since it is where everything we eat and drink goes through. My mom raised me on holistic methods for treating body ailments and these are a couple of the methods she either gave me or told me about.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • hot water
  • salt
  • medium towel
  • distilled spirit liquor
  1. Step 1

The first thing I do when my throat starts to feel sore, itchy and scratchy is gargle with salt water.

  2. Step 2

Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to 8 ounces of hot water. Don't burn yourself, the water should be as hot as tea.

  3. Step 3

Take the salt water and gargle in small amounts until the 8 oz are gone. You should notice that your sore throat will start to feel better. Continue to gargle about every 2 hours. You don't need to get up when you're asleep though.

  4. Step 4

Another gargle that works really well is baking soda. Add 1/4 teaspoon baking soda to 8 oz of water and use the mixture to gargle. I like this baking soda mixture for a sore throat because I don't like the taste of salt too much.

  5. Step 5

A more drastic remedy for a sore throat is to take a towel and sprinkle it with some strong distilled liquor or wine.
Place the soaked section around your neck. The irritation causes an increased blood flow which can help with healing a sore throat.
