Choosing your kitchen appliances is a very important step of remodeling or designing your kitchen. Here's how to get that designer look for your kitchen.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to do when deciding your kitchen appliances is to figure out your budget. This is a very important step because it will determine what you can and cannot afford.

Generally but not always, stainless steel will cost more than black or white. Stainless "look" may cost the same.

  2. Step 2

After you have figured your budget, decide which kitchen appliance has the most importance to you. For most, the dishwasher and microwave are the least important and the oven and refrigerator are the most important.

  3. Step 3

Now is the time to think about color. Stainless steel is the choice for most designers and is also the choice for most high end appliances. The issue with color is that if you decide to go with a low to moderate end appliance, you will have difficulty matching stainless steel to your other appliances since these makers do not use the same grade stainless steel.

If you are choosing high end appliances such as SubZero, Viking, Thermador, Electrolux and GE Monogram (not Profile), these high end stainless appliances will work together and there is no need to stick with the same brand for all your appliances in your kitchen.

  4. Step 4

One way to achieve a designer look without matching your appliances is to choose black or white over stainless. You may have one stainless appliance in the kitchen to mix in. Many choose to get a stainless refrigerator or oven and have the rest black or white.

  5. Step 5

If you choose an over the range microwave, it is ideal to have the match to the range oven. This means sticking with the same color and manufacturer. The reason is your eye is naturally drawn to both pieces at the same time and it could look very off if you pick a different model.

  6. Step 6

A knowledgeable salesman at your appliance retail store will be able to point you in the right direction when it comes to matching appliances. The main problem shopping at most appliance stores is that the salesperson may not be well informed when it comes to grades of stainless steel.

  7. Step 7

If you choose all stainless steel and to mix manufacturers, be sure to check that the stainless steel brush or finish is in the same direction as your other kitchen appliances. Matching handles or knobs will finish the look.
