There are some real nasty viruses out there. Here are some great ways to protect a computer from them.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Get anti virus software.
But don't just download or install it, keep it current. You will want to continue to update your software, so it will continue to protect you from new viruses. New viruses are created all the time, so your best bet is to have your computer loaded with a great anti virus program to insure your safety. While anti virus software will not always protect your computer, it will better your chances.

  2. Step 2

    Be careful what you download.
There are many things that can be downloaded from the internet, but not all of them are healthy for your computer. Many anti virus programs will scan a file before you open or download it. I suggest using that as much as possible. It could protect you from getting an ugly virus that could either damage your computer or steal your personal information.

  3. Step 3

Don't open all of your emails.
Be wary when opening your emails. If you do not know who it is from, you might not want to open the attachment. Email is a big way people can spread viruses. So avoid opening mail that seems like a scam or it is something that you do not recognize. Also many emails have spam folders, things located in there are also potential viruses.

Tips & Warnings
  • Find an anti virus software that meets your needs.
