How to Make a Double Treble Crochet

If you know how to do the treble crochet, double treble crochet should be easy for you. Double treble crochet stitch comes after learning the treble crochet. knowing the other basic crochet stiches will help you learn the stitch faster. Patterns use double treble stitch when a longer stitch is needed.. The U.S.double treble stitch is abbreviated dtr in patterns. It is also called the double triple stitch.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Worsted Weight Yarn
  • G or H Crochet Hook
  1. Step 1

    Start the chain with a slip knot. Make any number of chains. Use twenty stiches for practice as an example.

  2. Step 2

    Yarn over three times. This will make four loops on your hook.

  3. Step 3

    Insert hook in stitch or chain according to the pattern. Draw up a loop.

  4. Step 4

    You should now have five loops on your hook. Yarn over draw through two loops.

  5. Step 5

    Repeat the last step two more times until one loop remains. Chain five to turn double treble crochet. Repeat across row.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use worsted weight yarn when you are first learning the double treble crochet. Light colors will help you see the stitch better.
