Dress for Court

We have all seen episodes of Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown. The people that attend those hearings are often dressed like bums and behaving like idiots. Unfortunately this is the image that is portrayed and many people think it is acceptable. It is NOT! When you enter a courtroom you should be dressed appropriately. If you don't know what that means follow these tips to make sure your wardrobe is appropriate for a trip to the court house.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The most important that is that your clothing be clean and in good condition. You should take the time to iron your shirt and pants. Do not wear torn jeans, dirty clothes of any kind, shirts that show a bare stomach, hats, tank tops, or flip flops.

  2. Step 2

Women should wear a dress, skirt, or nice dress pants to attend court. Men should wear dress pants.

  3. Step 3

Women should wear a blouse or nice top in the courtroom. They should not wear tight fitting tops, tops that show a great deal of cleavage, or shirts that can be seen through or that expose a bra strap. Men should wear a dress shirt or a polo shirt that is pressed. Men should not wear work shirts.

  4. Step 4

At no time should any offensive items be worn in the court room. There should be no display of gang colors or affiliation of any type.

Tips & Warnings
  • Prior to attending court ask a friend or family member to evaluate the outfit you plan on wearing.
