Kale is nutrient dense and a delicious addition in smoothies!*To make the best energy drinks: Select a variety of colorful fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably organic, for nutrient-dense energy drink/ smoothies*
Although traditional supermarkets have a better display of fruits and vegetables than they used to, you will find yourself seeing them for the first time. What new fruit, vegetable, or leafy green will you try today? Durian, mango, kiwi...arugula, kale, chard...there are so many nutrient-dense, antioxidant rich raw delights from which to choose! -
Step 3
*To get recipes for energy drinks, find smoothie recipes on the internet or from books...or just experiment!*
It is hard to go wrong when you are making smoothie energy drinks--but it is best to start with few ingredients. Sometimes simple recipes are best. Please find links under Additional Resources for smoothie recipes on the internet. You will also find excellent smoothie recipes in most raw food "cookbooks". -
Step 4
Mmm...stawberry-banana-kale smoothie!*An excellent, basic energy drink /smoothie recipe--makes several servings*
-Two cups soy milk (not raw--but vegan--and contains Vitamins B12 and D). Almond milk or water will work, too.
-Two cups frozen strawberries.
-Banana
-Two tsp hemp powder (high in protein and omega 3, 6, 9 fatty acids.)
-One cup kale.
Put the liquid in your Vitamix blender (or whichever powerful blender you prefer). Add the frozen strawberries gradually, and then the rest of the ingredients. Enjoy! -

on 4/6/2009 Thanks for the great article! I'm just beginning my RAW journey and starting out SLOW. I tried going RAW cold turkey a couple years ago and the results were not pretty! Smoothies are a great place to start!
