Make a Great Dining Table Out of 2 Urns and a Top

Using 2 identical plaster urns turned end to end with a round painted wood top is a fairly inexpensive way to create a gorgeous and substantial looking dining table that would look great with many styles of decor!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 identical plaster or cement urns, each about 14" high
  • Liquid Nail or other mastic type adhesive
  • round wooden top, about 42" in diameter
  • primer
  • acrylic paints in desired colors for base and table top
  • satin or gloss water based polyurethane
  1. Step 1

Select 2 identical 14" (approximately) urns from a garden center or statuary yard. Some places will glue the two urns together for you (open end to open end). If not, use the liquid nail to glue them together yourself.

  2. Step 2

Using brushes and sponges and acrylic paint, paint table base to look like stone or any desired finish. Finishes that occur in nature look best on rough surfaces.

  3. Step 3

I had a friend build me a 42" round wooden top with 1 1/2 inch edge. Prime the table top.
Center table top on base and secure with more adhesive .

  4. Step 4

Paint table top desired color ( I used sea sponges and several shades of brown for a leather look). I used a Tuscan plate for inspiration for my design, which is painted in acrylic paint on top of the brown background.
Finish with 2 or 3 coats of polyurethane, which will insure that you can clean the table with a damp cloth.
