How to Propagate Blueberries
It is fun and easy to create more blueberry plants from your original blueberry shrubs. Things You'll Need
- established blueberry plant
- peat moss
- sand
- pots
- garden scissors or cutters

In the spring, take 3 to 6 inches of cuttings. The cuttings should be from the tips of the stems. A small pair of garden cutters will work nicely.

Pull off the bottom leaves from the stem, leaving only the top pair of leaves.

In a pot, combine a mix of half peat moss and half sand. Combine the peat moss and sand thoroughly. Place the cutting into the peat-sand mix allowing only the top third of the cutting to stick out of the soil.

Water the cuttings slightly. The soil should be kept moist, but not overly wet. Keep in a high humidity area.

The cuttings should root in a few weeks. Once the new rooted cuttings have matured a bit, place them in a larger pot. They can be moved to the garden the following year.

Trying to figure out what I am doing wrong in trying to start some plants from cuttings off my High Bush Blueberries. I took some cuttings stripped some leaves dipped them in root hormone. Put in Part Sand and part Perlite. Put them inside a garbage bag, white, to set up the humidity. Put them in the shade outside yesterday. Today I check and they had wilted and turned brown. What am I doing wrong? I am also trying to see if I can root some of them in a glass of water. Any ideas appreciated. Don't seem as easy to root them as it sounds. mail(at)mikealrhughes(dot)com

Good idea! I've always had trouble growing blueberries, maybe I will have better luck if i propagate some extras :)
