Step 1
Determined your skin type-
Decide if you have dry, oily, sensitive or normal skin. This will determine what type of foundation is best for your skin. The following is the best type of foundation for each type of skin.
•Normal skin- This skin type is also referred to as combination skin. It's normal to have more oily areas, such as nose and forehead, along with drier areas. Pick a foundation that works for oil controlling and mostly water as a base ingredient. Look for a light coverage.
•Dry skin- When your skin is dry, it's important to find a face foundation that has more oil in it. Look for a foundation that moisturizes and has ingredients such as mineral oil. Be sure to choose a foundation that is light and not one that will cake on.
•Oily skin- Skin that produces a lot of oil, will need a heavier based foundation to last. Look for a foundation that has a drying agent in it such as alcohol. Many foundations will have the words "oil control" right on their product, making it easy to find.
•Sensitive skin- If your skin is sensitive to makeup, look for the lightest coverage you can get away with. The more fragrance and scents a product has in it, will be most likely to irritate your skin. Try using tinted moisturizers as an alternative to foundations. -
Step 2
Choose the right color-
Choosing the right makeup foundation is a lot about the shade and how well it matches your skin tone. If you aren't confident about figuring out your skin color, you can go to a department store and have an associate help you. Alternately, you can find a cosmetic store that allows you to test their products. Apply the product to your jawline, if the color doesn't stand out and blends nicely, you know you have found your match. -
Step 3
Find the right consistency-
As you know, everyone has different skin. What works well for one person may not for the next. You should find a foundation that spreads and covers well. To test consistency, dab a small amount on the inside of your wrist, spread out and test if it covers smooth and doesn't dry too fast. -
Step 4
After determining skin type, color and consistency, you will be equipped to find the best makeup foundation and your search will be completed!
