Things You'll Need:
- Shoes
- Odor Eaters
- Shoe Spray
- Antibacterial spray
- Washing Machine
-
Step 1
First of all you should try to identify the source of the odor, whether it is something that you stepped in or whether it is coming from the inside of the shoe.
-
Step 2
If the shoes are sneakers, or are otherwise made from a fairly hardy material, then the easiest way to remove odor is often to run them through a cycle in the washing machine. This shouldn't be done with dress shoes or other more delicate shoes.
-
Step 3
If your shoes are unsuitable for use with a washing machine, then leaving them outside overnight will often make the odor go away. This is usually because the bacteria that are causing the smell will die off in the colder temperature than indoors.
-
Step 4
Most odors in shoes are caused by a build up of bacteria from sweat collecting in the soles of the shoes. a quick way to freshen up some shoes and kill the bacteria is a simple spraying of antibacterial spray. This will generally neutralize the odor but have no smell of their own, so an air freshener can also be used to make the shoes smell good.
-
Step 5
If the odor has been removed, then using odor eating strips inside the shoes in the future will keep them smelling fresh. These are basically insoles that go inside the shoes and contain an antibacterial and absorbent layer which removes odor.
