Instructions

    • 1

Find someone who knows about mushrooms. Ask your friends, your relatives, and maybe even your co-workers. If you can, find a mushroom hunting club. If you have someone who knows what he or she is doing, it will make things a lot easier.

    • 2

Find the perfect place to mushroom hunt. I recommend local public woods. Better yet, if you have a friend with a private woods, ask him or her for permission.

    • 3

Do lots of research on local mushrooms. Find an online guide or a book about mushrooms. Some mushrooms would look harmless but they would really be poisonous.

    • 4

Wait until after a rainstorm and go out hunting. Mushrooms sprout up after rain. Make sure that there won't be any more rain during your mushroom hunting day.

    • 5

When you hunt for mushrooms, get a stick. Get a nice sturdy stick that you could either bring with you or pick one up in the woods. A stick is great for lifting leaves to see mushrooms or to steady one self up and down a hill. Never underestimate the power of the stick.

    • 6

Mushrooms come in groups. If you see one mushroom, there's another one close by. So, keep an eye out for mushrooms.

    • 7

Enjoy the mushrooms you find. You can fry them. Put them in noodles. There are all sorts you can do with wild mushrooms.

Tips & Warnings

  • Looking for mushrooms requires practice. Your eyes need time to adapt to the woods so don't give up.

  • Respect the land. Leave it mostly the way it was before you show up.

  • Respect other mushroom hunters. Mushroom hunting is more popular than ever so you will see them.

  • Remember, poisonous mushrooms and harmless mushrooms can look alike.

  • Use general precaution when you go in the woods.
