Losing weight isn't simple. It takes counting calories and readjusting your lifestyle. If taken seriously, it can happen.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep a food journal. No matter what, a food journal is the ultimate way to lose weight. Write down everything you eat. Add up the calories. You eventually learn where you can trim down calories.

  2. Step 2

Know how many calories you can consume in a day to lose weight. A calorie calculator can help you estimate how many calories you need to maintain your weight. To lose weight, you'd lower your daily intake of calories.

  3. Step 3

If you need 2000 calories a day to maintain your weight, drop 500 calories a day. It takes 3000 calories to add up to a pound of fat. So after 6 days, at 500 calories, you'd lose one pound of fat.

  4. Step 4

Help your body improve your fat burning by eating healthy. Fiber filled foods like fruit, grains and vegetables make you feel fuller and add nutrients that help increase weight loss.

  5. Step 5

Drinking water does help, and it contains no calories. Many of the calories you consume are from drinks, like soda and sugary juices. Separate desired taste from thirst. If you are thirsty, drink water until you feel better. If you want a taste of something, then drink a moderated amount.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can improve your weight loss by lowering your calorie count on your own. If at 1,500 calories a day, after two weeks, you aren't seeing weight loss, lower your calorie count down 100 calories.
  • Your food journal is easier to upkeep if you can carry it with you. Books are available at your local bookstore. There are also applications for your cell phone or PDA, most likely, that you can find online to help you keep track.
  • Stop lowering your calorie intake at 1,200 calories. If you still aren't losing weight, contact your doctor before lowering your calories further. Your doctor can examine you to make sure there are not other underlying conditions preventing you from losing weight.
  • Your first couple of weeks at a reduced calorie count could make you feel weaker than normal. Some people try to jump into an exercise routine at the same time. If you do, take it slow at first, until your body adjusts to the reduced calories.
