When I was a little girl my Grandma had a huge pomegranate tree. I remember picking one right off the tree and having a grown up cut it open for me. Then I would sit on her front porch steps and pick the succulant ruby red seeds from the membrane, eating them one by
one. I loved the sweet, tart flavor. Yum! By the time I had finished, my fingers were stained bright red. I didn't care though, because eating pomegranate on my Grandma's front steps was one of my favorite things to do. Aaaah the memories...

Since then I have found an easier way to get to those seeds without staining my hands. In this article I will show you how to seed a pomegranate.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

A heavy pomegranate is a juicey pomegranate. The skin should be thin and tough with no cracks. Cracked skin is a sign that it is over ripe. Store them in the fridge for 2 months.

The pomegranate seeds will fall to the bottom of the bowl and the rest will float to the surface. By doing this step under water you will save yourself and your clothing from becoming stained.

  5. Step 5

Throw away the skin and the membrane, then pour the pomegranate seeds into a colander. They are now ready to use. Let dry then store them in an airtight freezer bag in the freezer.

  6. Step 6

After you seed a pomegranate you can either eat the seeds or drink the juice. To make pomegranate juice put the seeds into a ziplock bag and seal it up. Then use a rolling pin and gently roll over the seeds, this will break the seeds extracting the juice. Now cut a corner open and squeeze the juice into a glass. Enjoy!
