Intern: To get your foot in the door at your local television stations, you might have to work as an intern. Contact the news department and tell them that you are interested in interning and that your long term goal is to become an newscaster or on camera reporter.

Field Reporter: When you get your first "on camera" job, in most cases you will be working as a field reporter. Which means that whenever an event or new item takes place, you will report from the location of the event. This means you must be ready to go on a moments notice and able to put together a news story on the fly. This is a great way to enhance your on camera skills.

Be Patient: Some reporters do field reporting for years before they are able to get in front of a cushy news desk. This takes time and persistence as well as proving to be a valuable commodity to your television station. If this is your goal then you should do all that you can to reach it!
