Things You'll Need:
- A Secure Plastic Sack
- Long Handled Hedge Clippers
- Thick Clothing
- Insecticide
- Gloves
-
Step 1
The first thing to do is to wait until either the evening or early in the morning before attempting to tackle a wasps nest. So long as the sun has not risen and the air temperature is fairly cold the wasps inside will be docile and lazy, and less likely to attack.
-
Step 2
Next take a secure sack, usually plastic or hessian work best, and place it under the nest, ensuring it is open and ready to catch the nest. At this point ensure that you have on gloves and thick clothing to deter stings.
-
Step 3
If the nest is hanging from a branch, then cutting through the branch is next. The nest should fall into the sack, which should then be secured as quickly as you can.
-
Step 4
If the nest is in the corner of a roof or similar, then it might need to be broken up before removal. In this case, using smoke pellets near the nest should stop most of the wasps from becoming angry. If the nest is high up, then these can be attached to a stick.
-
Step 5
Once you have the nest and its inhabitants secured inside the sack, they can either be disposed of or burned. So long as the sack is strong enough to resist being chewed through, then leaving the sack a few days will often be enough to kill all the wasps.
-
Step 6
Wasps are creatures of habit, so changing the surroundings of the last nest site is essential for keeping them away for good. This might be pruning trees or hedges or putting insecticide filled traps around indoor locations.
