Cleaning the house can prove to be a lot of work, especially if you find yourself unmotivated to begin! Here are some tips that may help motivate you to get on your feet, hands and knees, or whatever you need to get the housework done.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Invite guests over to your home. Knowing that someone else will be a witness to your mess, or cleanliness (whichever one you choose), is a great way to motivate yourself to get the house cleaned.

  2. Step 2

Look at pictures, magazines, home shows on television, or visit a friend whose home you know is always clean to be inspired and reminded that a clean home is something that you can have, too.

  3. Step 3

Get someone to help you if you can. Making house cleaning a joint or family effort and knowing that someone else will be committed to the same goal is always encouraging. Not only will the housework be split to lessen the load, but it will not be as lonely either. Knowing that someone else is helping can also motivate you to do your share in an effort to make certain the work is not placed solely on your helper.

  4. Step 4

Think of it as a way to kill two birds with one stone. Not only will you have a clean home in the end, but you will also have gotten your exercise for the day!

  5. Step 5

Often the thought of house cleaning can be daunting. Spread the work throughout the day. Take breaks after finishing up on one room before moving onto the next. Or, if cleaning your entire home in one day is too overwhelming, decide on cleaning over a period of two or more days. You can always work on one, two or more rooms per day. However, if you do decide on spreading the workload over a course of more than one day, be certain that you will be up for more than one day of housework.

  6. Step 6

Adopt a can-do attitude and just do it. Sometimes the sheer thought of housework can be a source of stress that can make you feel unmotivated to begin. Instead of using this time to think of cleaning your home and dreading it, just do it. By putting your energy towards making an effort to making your home spick and span, you will be eliminating the stresses of having one more thing like housework on your plate. When you are done, step back and enjoy the results. You will be glad you made the effort!
