The letter H offers many fun activities to use with preschoolers to increase letter recognition. Providing your preschooler with lots of opportunities to see the letter H and do activities related to the letter is an effective teaching method.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Introduce the letter H. Show your preschooler the letter H as well as objects that start with the letter H. Discuss the sounds made by the letter H.

  2. Step 2

Plan a hat day. Collect different types of hats for your preschooler to explore. Take turns trying on the different hats. This could also turn into a dramatic play opportunity.

  3. Step 3

Play a game of hide and seek with the letter H. Instead of people hiding, make a letter H from cardboard. One person will hide the letter H while the other person counts. The counter will then search for the letter H. If multiple people are playing, give each person a letter H to hide, making each one a different color so they can be distinguished.

  4. Step 4

Make a house out of an appliance box. Cut out a door and windows. Draw several letter H outlines on the house for your child to color. This letter H activity is not only fun but educational too.

  5. Step 5

Go for a hike around the neighborhood or at an area park. While on the hike, look for objects that start with the letter H. You can also take a camera along to snap photos of the objects. Make your own letter H book with the images.

  6. Step 6

Set up a hair salon in your home. Choose a chair as the salon chair. Gather brushes, a spray bottle with water and hair accessories. Take turns styling everyone's hair.

  7. Step 7

Review the letter H by talking about all of the objects and activities that start with the letter H.

Tips & Warnings
