If you're even slightly overweight, you're probably familiar with cellulite. These unsightly skin dimples result from an accumulation of fat and they can appear out of nowhere. They generally develop on the buttocks, but fortunately, there are different ways to reduce or get rid of cellulite on the buttocks.

From Quick Guide: Getting Rid of Cellulite
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lose weight. Fat generally causes cellulite, and to reduce cellulite on the buttocks, you'll need to lose a few pounds. Reduce your body fat by five to ten percent. Endeavor to lose one to two pounds a week.

  2. Step 2

Eat a healthy diet. Eating fatty foods contributes to cellulite on the buttocks. To reduce the appearance of cellulite, cut out high-fat foods such as fried foods, sugary foods and fast food. Read food labels and choose low-fat alternatives. Replace unhealthy snacks with fruit and raw veggies.

  3. Step 3

Engage in 30 minutes of cardio three times a week. Cardio or high-impact workouts such as jogging, power walking and aerobics speed your metabolism and help you burn fat. This can alleviate unsightly cellulite.

  4. Step 4

Tone your thighs and buttocks. Exercises designed to tone and strengthen your thighs and buttocks can reduce cellulite. These include squats, leg lifts, kickbacks, sidekicks and lunges, which tone and slim the gluteal muscles.

  5. Step 5

Take a vitamin supplement. Various vitamins supplements are proven to reduce cellulite in the buttocks. Vitamin C can reduce body fat and cellulite; potassium reduces fluid retention, which can cause cellulite; iodine increases metabolism; and essential fatty acids such as fish oil and flaxseed help tone skin and may reduce cellulite.

  6. Step 6

Experiment with light therapy. Cosmetic procedures such as VelaSmooth and Triactive combine laser and light energy to smooth skin dimples and reduce cellulite. Both procedures improve blood circulation and increase metabolism, which can reduce fat and cellulite.

Tips & Warnings
  • Talk to your doctor about mesotherapy. Doctors will inject various medicines, herbal extracts and vitamins into the skin. This treatment can reduce cellulite and encourage weight loss.
