How to Find Area in AutoCAD

CAD applications simplify many tasks.

AutoCAD is a popular drafting and modeling software package. Computer aided drafting (CAD) programs like AutoCAD have largely replaced the draftsman’s tables in most design shops over the past few decades. In part this is because they enable you to perform with a few keystrokes many modeling calculations that would take careful measurement and manual calculation on a paper drawing. Finding the area of a closed figure is one of these.

Instructions

    • 1

      Type “AREA” on the AutoCAD command line.

    • 2

      Click on the first point of the figure. Move the mouse pointer over the intersection of two points and click the left mouse button.

    • 3

      Click on each remaining point of the figure.

    • 4

      Press the “Enter” key. The area and perimeter length appear at the bottom of the command-line window.

Tips & Warnings

  • Measurements are shown in the default units (inches, meters, etc.) for the drawing.
