dye eggs naturally this Easter

Easter is of course a spring time favorite of almost any child. With the Easter baskets filled with candy and the Easter egg hunts, how could it not be? If you want to try something different this year with egg coloring think about going green! You can go green this Easter and dye your eggs with all natural ingredients you probably have in your kitchen right now. It's fun to watch your creation before your eyes!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Instead of buying dyes, you can have fun creating different colors with items in your pantry and refrigerator. Did you ever think of using items such as paprika, blueberries, or beets to dye your eggs? It is simple and fun at the same time. You can leave the eggs in the mixture as long as you like to make the color light or dark. Here are different colors you can make with different items.

  2. Step 2

    Orange - 2 tablespoons paprika
    Blue - 1 1/2 cups blueberries
Green - 1 cup blueberries and 2 tablespoons turmeric
Pink - 1 cu chopped fresh beets
Bright yellow - 4 tablespoons of ground turmeric

purple - 1/2 cup purple grape juice

Light blue - Add several pieces of purple cabbage, will look purple, but is blue

    Let all cool before dipping

  3. Step 3

With each color above, you will want to add that ingredient to a pot with two cups of water and 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Bring the mixture to a boil and then remove it from the heat. Strain the mixture into a bowl and place 4 - 6 eggs into the mixture. Leave the eggs in the mixture for 30 minutes or longer depending on the depth of color you want to achieve.

  4. Step 4

You could also use food colorings rather then buying different egg dyes. Even Kool-aid works great. Be creative and have fun!

Then remove the eggs from the mixture and place them on a cooling rack until completely dry. Place them in the refrigerator until you are ready to use them so they do not go bad. These eggs are perfect safe to eat!

  5. Step 5

To get your eggs polished and shiny put some vegetable oil on a cotton ball and rub it all over your dry dye egg
