The grapefruit diet has existed in some form since the 1930s and continues to be popular even today. Considered a fad diet, the grapefruit diet often allows a dieter to use some weight quickly, making it a decent "crash diet" to lose weight before a big event. Read on to learn if the grapefruit diet is the right way to go for you to drop weight fast.

  1. Step 1

    Get a hard copy of the grapefruit diet plan. While there is some day to day variety allowed, there are foods that are allowed, foods required to be eaten daily, and foods that should be avoided completely during the grapefruit diet's ten day span. Having this list makes it much easier to reference and follow.

    Follow the diet plan. The grapefruit diet might look similar to parts of the Atkins diet as it is a high protein diet with a lot of grapefruit while staying low on carbs. There are actually several different versions of the grapefruit diet, most include a lot of meat, skim milk, and grapefruit.

    Eat grapefruit or drink unsweetened grapefruit juice with every single meal. High protein foods take more calories to burn, while grapefruit is a low calorie food that takes up a lot of space in the stomach while providing fiber and vitamins. It's also been shown that grapefruit can lower insulin levels a little, which for many people will provide a few pounds of weight loss.
