How to Stop Glasses From Fogging
Fogged up eyeglasses and sunglasses can certainly be an annoyance. The problem is often caused by a warm and humid climate, or by sweat pooling on your face during vigorous activity. When moist air condenses on the cooler surface of glasses, the result is a fog that can be impossible to see through. Fortunately, there are several corrective options you can try. Does this Spark an idea?

When selecting glasses, try to choose a frame that sits slightly away from your face. The more air that circulates between the glasses and your face, the less fogging problems you will have. Some glasses have air ducts or vents built in which also prevent the fogging problem.

Once you've chosen glasses that allow maximum air circulation, commercial anti-fogging products are often the easiest way to keep your lenses fog free. Use a product such as PMI anti-fog spray, C-Clear or the Smith No-Fog cloth which comes free with Smith glasses. These products are designed to give glasses a mild electrical charge which prevents moisture build-up. Apply the substance according to the instructions on the label.

When moving from one temperature extreme to another (for example, from an air-conditioned building into the hot outdoors), allow your glasses to acclimate before wearing them. Keep the glasses in a sunny window while indoors, or wear them on top of your head for several minutes before stepping outside. Preventing the lenses from experiencing any temperature extremes will make fogging less noticeable.

You can also try an inexpensive at-home remedy. Apply soapy water or a bit of toothpaste to the lenses and let them dry. Then wipe off any excess soap or toothpaste to make sure you can see properly. The thin layer that remains will help prevent moisture from building up and fogging your glasses.

Skiers and those going outdoors in cold climates can also consider buying anti-fog goggles. These goggles have a small electric fan inside which runs constantly to eliminate fog.
